The CYFAM National Conference is the annual gathering of the Council of Young Filipinx Americans in Medicine. Each year, students, trainees, physicians, researchers, and community leaders come together to learn, mentor, and build lasting connections.

The weekend centers on three things:

• Mentorship: structured sessions and networking with people at every career stage
• Skill building: hands-on workshops on applications, research, leadership, and more
• Community: honoring Filipinx stories and advancing health equity together

Every attendee should leave with practical tools, new connections, and a clearer sense of their next step.

The 7th Annual CYFAM National Conference takes place Saturday and Sunday, February 13 to 14, 2027, in San Diego, California.

We will gather at the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine, in the T. Denny Sanford Medical Education and Telemedicine Center (MET Building). Programming begins at 8:00 AM PT on Saturday and 8:30 AM PT on Sunday.

Everyone is welcome. That includes students at every level, trainees, practicing clinicians, medical educators, researchers, public health professionals, community and cultural leaders, and anyone invested in the health and success of the Filipinx community.

Our goal is to keep the Conference as affordable as possible. Ticket prices are set to cover the cost of hosting the weekend, not to make a profit. Your ticket helps cover:

• Saturday lunch, plus snacks and beverages both days
• Printed name badges and Conference materials
• Workshops, mentorship sessions, and the Research Symposium
• Event supplies, audiovisual support, and on-site operations

Tickets are priced by tier, so students pay less than professionals. Sponsors and partners help keep prices down, and the Ramos Conference Scholarship supports attendees who need help with costs.

Yes. The Ramos Conference Scholarship supports attendees each year. Learn more and apply on the Ramos Scholarship page.

Yes. On-site registration uses the same online registration page (link to be announced), so please have a phone or laptop ready. Organizers at check-in are glad to help.

We accept online payment through the registration page only. We are unable to accept cash or checks, including on-site.

Yes. All presenters and exhibitors must register.

• Workshop presenters (invited and accepted): please contact your CYFAM Conference contact for registration details.
• Exhibitors: each exhibitor table covers two representatives. Additional representatives register at the full ticket price for their tier.

Example: if your organization sends four people, the table covers two. The other two each register at the full price for their own tier.

Speakers are not compensated or reimbursed for travel. As a small nonprofit serving the public, we keep the Conference as accessible as possible. Please contact your CYFAM Conference contact for more information.

Presenters may bring one guest (such as a spouse, parent, mentor, or friend) to their own session with a Guest Pass: Single-Session Access. Add the Guest Pass during registration, and check in together with your guest.

Guests who want to attend other sessions, meals, events, or the exhibit hall need a full Conference ticket.

Yes. Children 17 and under attend free when supervised by a registered adult. A few things help everyone enjoy the sessions:

• Please step out with your child if they become noisy during a session.
• Children cannot be in Conference spaces during setup or teardown.
• Children follow the same health and safety policies as all attendees.

• Refunds: reviewed case by case.
• Refund deadline: no refunds after January 29, 2027.
• Transfers: tickets cannot be transferred to another person.

Yes. All attendees accept the Participant Agreement during registration. It covers conduct, photography, and safety expectations.

Attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a registered parent or guardian, who is responsible for them throughout the Conference. Children 17 and under who attend with a registered adult may attend free, as noted above.

Selected oral and poster presenters will be notified by Friday, December 18, 2026. Selected presenters confirm their intent to present by Friday, January 29, 2027, at 11:59 PM PT.

Yes. Previously presented work is welcome.

Abstracts are limited to 250 words. Please use the Word template on our Research Symposium page and follow its formatting guidelines.

You can share your preference on the form: poster, oral, or both. The review committee makes the final decision. Oral presentations are about 15 minutes, and posters are 36 × 48 inches in landscape orientation.

Yes. Presenters print their own posters and bring them to the Conference.

Yes. Presenting authors with accepted abstracts must register once registration opens.

Virtual presentation is available only to selected presenters based outside North America. Presenters based in North America are expected to attend and present in person.

Yes. Honors include the Best Abstract Award, Judges' Choice Abstract in Public Health Research, Judges' Choice Abstract in Basic Research, and the People's Choice Award, among others.

Yes. The Conference offers continuing education credit through joint providership with Pinnacle Conference, LLC, a Jointly Accredited Provider. We expect up to 4 credits, the same as last year. The official credit statement will be posted once the activity is approved.

No. Credit is included with your Conference registration.

Yes. Please complete the evaluation survey soon after the Conference. The exact deadline will be shared with your survey link.

Credit is based on the sessions you attend as a learner. For questions about credit related to presenting, please contact your CYFAM Conference contact.

Yes. Email conference@cyfam.org to request a letter of attendance.

Yes. We can provide a justification letter to support funding requests to your school, program, or employer. Email conference@cyfam.org to request one.

Most important: bring a pen, plus a notebook for taking notes in sessions and workshops.

• Your name badge (after check-in on Saturday)
• A phone or laptop for workshops and on-site forms
• Copies of your CV or résumé, if you plan to network with mentors
• A reusable water bottle
• A light jacket or layers, since February mornings in La Jolla can be cool

Business casual is recommended. We also invite you to wear traditional attire, including the barong tagalog and Filipiniana. Wear comfortable shoes, since sessions may be in different rooms and parking can be a short walk away.

No. The Conference is an in-person event, and sessions are not livestreamed.

Yes, please! If you are driving, we highly encourage carpooling. Visitor spaces near the MET Building are limited, and sharing a ride also splits the cost of parking.

We recommend the South Parking Structure, 9210 Pharmacy Ln, La Jolla, CA 92093, the closest structure to the MET Building. See every lot, walking time, and map link on our Getting Here page.

On weekends, Visitor (V) spaces cost $2.25 per hour, up to $9 per day. Pay with ParkMobile (zone 4752) or at a pay station. Please observe all parking signs and avoid time-limited Visitor spaces. Full rates and payment steps are on our Getting Here page.

Please don't. Parking at the Jennifer Moreno Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center is reserved for VA patients and visitors, and attendees who park there do so at their own risk.

Yes. The closest stop is VA Medical Center Station on the UC San Diego Blue Line trolley, at 3350 La Jolla Village Drive, San Diego, CA 92161. Fare details are on our Getting Here page.

We recommend arriving in San Diego on Thursday, February 11, or Friday, February 12, 2027, and heading home late Sunday, February 14, or Monday, February 15, so you have time to enjoy the city. Monday is Presidents' Day, so book flights and hotels early. On Conference days, please arrive at the program start time, not earlier.

San Diego International Airport (SAN) is the closest, about 12 miles from campus, or about 15 to 25 minutes by car. If you fly into LAX, Burbank (BUR), or Orange County (SNA) and have more time, the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner is a scenic way to get to San Diego. See other airports and taking the train.

Pick up your badge at check-in. Register by January 29, 2027, to guarantee a printed badge and meals. After that date, printed badges and food are not guaranteed.

Yes. Please wear your badge at all times during the Conference, on both days. The only exception is public, non-ticketed areas. Anyone in a ticketed Conference area without a badge will be asked to leave. A lost badge may require a new registration and ticket.

Lunch is included on Day 1 (Saturday). Snacks and beverages are available both days. We collect dietary needs at registration and may follow up closer to the Conference if needed.

Yes. The Conference venue is ADA-accessible. If you need a lactation room or another accommodation, please email conference@cyfam.org before the Conference so we can plan with you.

CYFAM may photograph and record parts of the Conference to share our work. Details are in the Participant Agreement.

Yes. CYFAM is committed to a welcoming, respectful, and harassment-free space for everyone. All attendees, presenters, exhibitors, and volunteers agree to the Participant Agreement, which describes expected conduct.

If you experience or witness a concern, please tell any CYFAM volunteer or staff member on-site, or email conference@cyfam.org. Reports are handled promptly and with discretion.
