About Dr. Francisco
Dr. Gerard Francisco is Chairman and Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). Concurrently, he is the Chief Medical Officer and Founding Director of the UTHealth NeuroRecovery Research Center at TIRR Memorial Hermann.
A graduate of the first INTARMED class at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine, Dr. Francisco completed his residency at the UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and fellowship in brain injury medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. In 2017, he was elected to the National Academy of Medicine. He was president of the Association of Academic Physiatrists and secretary of the American Board of PM&R.
A recipient of federal and foundation grants, his current research focuses on spasticity management, neuromodulation, and technology-assisted rehabilitation. Dr. Francisco is the incumbent President of the 30,000-member International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine.
